Meet Jay Yarbrough: Turning Challenges into Solutions in the Southeast

Jay Yarbrough finds reward in watching his Swinerton colleagues’ careers flourish.

“From the project engineers to the project executives, I enjoy seeing people develop and succeed throughout their careers,” he says.

Yarbrough has spent 17 years with Swinerton and serves as Regional Operations Controller for Swinerton’s Southeast team. He’s based in Atlanta.

Q: Why are you proud to work for Swinerton?

A: I love being part of a 100% employee-owned company that is committed to maintaining its status as a leader in the industries we serve. I am proud of Swinerton’s dedication to improving the communities where we work, and I’m proud to say I work for a company that invests in developing its employees.

Q: What does your typical workday look like? 

A: I touch so many different people and departments on a daily basis that there really isn’t a typical day for me.

Amid the variables, here’s what is consistent: I’m always focused on identifying challenges and working to find the solutions. This means some days I’m working with accounting, some days it’s personnel, other days it’s operations.

Q: What makes now an exciting time to work in the Southeast?

A: Many markets are booming right here in the Southeast. We’re constantly hearing about major businesses deciding to move their operations here. The Southeast is the place to be!

Q: How do you spend your free time? And how do you wish you spent your free time? 

A: I love spending my free time with my wife and children. I also make time for lifting weights, playing softball and tennis.

Hopefully as my children get older, we will be able to travel more – that’s definitely on our to-do list.
