We are pleased to announce El Gabilan Library was presented the Community Impact Award for Silicon Valley Business Journal’s Structures Awards during a virtual award ceremony.  To show our appreciation we created this short video of thanks.

The new Salinas Public Library branch, El Gabilan, replaces the former 3,200-square-foot facility. The 21,000-square-foot library was designed to capture the imagination and inspire a love of lifelong learning, including:

• Space for more books, music and videos. The new children’s area is larger than the previous area.
• Dedicated space for children’s storytimes and playgroups.
• A separate space for teens, allowing for study in small groups as well as providing a safe space for teens to socialize and access arts and technology resources.
• An outdoor learning and play space to connect children with nature and the environment.
• A makerspace and digital arts lab offering classes that will connect teens and adults to careers in technology and the arts.
• A large community room and outdoor program space where families can attend programs, concerts, and celebrations together.

This project was built in partnership with Griffin | Swinerton.  This joint venture combines the strengths of Griffin Structures, Inc. and Swinerton, firms recognized for their expertise and innovation in public-private partnerships.  As mentioned in a recent Bisnow article, P3 projects, as these partnerships are known, is where “private developers, along with architects and contractors, pair up with state and local governments to reshape public buildings and spaces. The team works together to share the risks and rewards of new development to create projects that improve the communities where these projects take shape.”

The Engineering News Record (ENR) also recently named El Gabilan Library a Northern California 2020 Merit Award Winner in the Cultural/Worship category.
