Swinerton Mass Timber banner on beam; topping out Hillsboro community center

Hillsboro Community Center Tops Out

Swinerton and the City of Hillsboro recently topped out at the Hillsboro Community Center project, a two-story facility built to serve the recreational and gathering needs of a broad cross-section of Hillsboro’s expanding and diverse community.

This project milestone was celebrated on December 19 of last year, when the project team, City of Hillsboro, and members of the community gathered together – despite the rain – to watch the last structural beam of this mass timber and CLT building put into place.

Designed by Opsis Architecture, this 51,000-square-foot community center will feature a multi-court gymnasium, community and meeting rooms, exercise and dance rooms, and cardio and weight areas.

Recently holding a naming contest, Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Commission received more than 150 suggestions from the community and made a unanimous recommendation. On January 7, the city council approved the name for the city’s new building: Hidden Creek Community Center.

The new community center, located across from 53rd Avenue Community Park, is expected to open in the Fall of 2020. The City of Hillsboro already owns the 20 acres plot of land, which will house the community center, parking lot, and connecting trails.

Swinerton is also building the new Washington County Event Center, located less than two miles from the coming community center, expected to be completed Spring 2020.
