In January, Mayor London Breed appointed Lori Dunn-Guion to the Workforce Investment San Francisco (WISF) Board.  The committee’s goal is to help the Bay Area workforce thrive by improving access and opportunities for employment through education, training, and support services.

Over 20 Years of Construction Experience to bring to Workforce Investment San Francisco Board

Lori brings more than 20 years of construction expertise to the WISF Board. She worked her way up the ranks at Swinerton, starting as an Intern Project Engineer while she was a UC Berkeley student. After graduating with a Civil Engineering degree, Lori officially joined the company as a Project Engineer. Over the years, she has taken on more advanced roles and was recently promoted to Division Manager of the Bay Area Building Group. Lori builds trust and consensus with team members and clients while fostering an environment that encourages transparency and collaboration, which has contributed to her successful career.

Dedication to Local Communities

Lori is also passionate about giving back to the communities. She is the President of The Swinerton Foundation, the charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit arm of the Swinerton corporation with three main focus areas – equitable education, resilient communities, and sustainable workforce development. Since she joined in 2015, she has advanced the Foundation’s mission to expand Swinerton’s efforts to build sustainable cities and neighborhoods and support our communities.

Through The Swinerton Foundation, Lori led the development of a construction-related curriculum for students participating in an adopt-a-School program at Oakland’s Fremont High School to provide construction career insight. Lori also partnered with the Cypress Mandela Training Center, a pre-apprenticeship program in Oakland. She helped establish the Tony Williamson memorial scholarship for Cypress Mandela in 2018 to assist individuals interested in pursuing careers in the construction industry.

“As a result of her leadership, several Cypress graduates were recipients of the Tony Williamson Scholarship and internship awards. Each of those graduates are now a part of the Swinerton Team.
