Meet Kevin Smith: Lifelong Learner

Project Executive Kevin Smith is a lifelong learner, passionate about leadership, training and development of teams. A graduate of Penn State University, Kevin nearly 20 years of industry experience in structural engineering, constructability, and efficiency.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A: Watching my teammates grow and be successful on projects.  I don’t believe it’s possible for one person or entity to succeed on a project without everyone working together. Defining the team goals, coming together through the tough times and working through the challenges to meet the goals of our clients is very rewarding. I feel honored to be able to coach, teach and watch our young professionals learn as we service our clients — it’s my favorite part of my job.

Q: Why are you proud to work for Swinerton?
A: Each office across the country shares a common Swinerton culture reflected through our core values of integrity, leadership, passion, and excellence.  At the same time, each office is also unique to the local culture in which we do business.  I’ve always felt this model works and the proof shows in the accountability and leadership of our people.  I’m honored to work for such a great organization.

Q: What does your typical work day look like?
A: “Do whatever it takes to keep things moving.”

Q: What makes now an exciting time to work in Charlotte?
A:
After working for Swinerton for eight years in Hawaii, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help build the Charlotte office. I believe Swinerton has some attributes and differentiators that are unique to the Charlotte market that will allow us to better serve our local partners.

Q: How do you spend your free time?
A: I love spending time with my family when I’m outside of work.  I have four kids between the ages of three and seven and have a great time teaching them new things and watching them grow.  We enjoy swimming, hiking and going on fun adventures.
