A Model of Consistent Excellence
Swinerton taps its National Accounts framework to deliver consistent quality and excellence to Vera Whole Health projects across the nation.
In an ever-evolving healthcare landscape, aging and outdated infrastructure can hamper progress for fast-growing, innovative healthcare service providers. When it comes to renovating existing facilities or expanding to new geographies, clients need a reliable construction partner who can meet their expectations without disrupting daily operational patient care or blowing past set budgets and fixed timetables.
Swinerton’s ongoing national partnership with Seattle-based apree health, parent company of Vera Whole Health, is comprised of 15 completed facilities under various monikers in states such as Virginia, Georgia, and Washington, demonstrating Swinerton’s ability to execute healthcare projects with precision and reliability regardless of location. Two additional builds are currently underway.
Each facility adheres strictly to the client’s design standards, relying on an Account Executive within Swinerton’s National Accounts group to understand, track, and relay important client preferences to each local build team. Dedicating a single point of contact to manage this delivery framework reduces the learning curve for local teams, allowing them to focus on aspects of the project that are unique to their jurisdiction or to the project site.
Solutions for a Successful Partnership
As a national holistic primary care provider, Vera Whole Health has a range of project needs. Some facilities require full renovation, but others are nearly turnkey and only require minor upgrades to meet design standards.
Not only does Swinerton innately understand Vera Whole Health’s preferences for building footprint, MEP infrastructure, and design such as paint and branding—but the construction firm is equipped with a national Facility Solutions team to help clients with ongoing building maintenance and other small improvements.
Swinerton’s divisional build teams and Facility Solutions leads are trained for seamless hand-offs. Whether the facilities crew elevates a particular renovation to the full build teams to execute, or the build team hands off a final space to the facilities maintenance technicians to support, keeping all renovations and ongoing maintenance services in-house means each onsite team has all documentation needed to maintain the quality and life cycle performance of the final building asset.
National Impact
Washington state has been a catalyst for the expansion of both Swinerton and Vera Whole Health’s nationwide relationship. Swinerton’s local Seattle Special Projects team has built up a reputation as a trustworthy, value-driven builder, leading to a long-time partnership that embraces Vera Whole Health’s mission to provide best-in-class healthcare to patients.
Swinerton recently embarked on two significant projects for Vera Whole Health in Virginia, each with unique challenges and requirements. A newly completed facility in Richmond’s historic Scott’s Addition district marked the provider’s entry into the state, while the ongoing Short Pump location in Glen Allen will expand Vera Whole Health’s capacity to deliver advanced care and services to all ages in these high-growth Virginia markets.
In Richmond, Swinerton delivered a 4,500-square-foot medical facility within the ground floor of an apartment complex. The project transformed the second-generation space, delivering a new entrance, expanding the existing six exam rooms and office area, and restoring the brick facade to preserve the building’s historic character and heritage.
Coming on the heels of Richmond’s success, Short Pump began construction in September 2025 with a comprehensive 2,800-square-foot overhaul of the first-generation space. The final footprint will feature four exam rooms, a reception area, and a laboratory. The project includes wood and felt-baffled ceilings that enhance acoustics and aesthetics, decorative LED lighting, and custom millwork to enhance the space for optimized patient care and staff efficiency.
For both projects, Swinerton has served as the general contractor overseeing preconstruction, construction, and self-perform drywall installation.
One of the hallmarks of Swinerton’s ongoing partnership with Vera Whole Health is the construction firm’s national capabilities. This includes the ability to leverage value engineering to further Vera Whole Health’s patient-forward mission. Through proactive efforts, the team will identify out-of-budget scope items and leverage its national supplier networks to offer solutions for alternative materials with shorter lead times that meet accelerated timelines while still achieving design intent.
A Model of Consistent Excellence
Overcoming differences in location, building conditions, and local regulations, Swinerton is committed to delivering the same quality spaces for patients and staff. These specialized clinical spaces are designed to meet infection control requirements, feature thoughtful layouts that enhance patient experience and staff workflow, and include custom finishes such as specialized ceiling treatments and millwork that elevate the patient experience within Vera Whole Health facilities.
Swinerton’s consistency in project delivery is empowered in part by its National Accounts framework, and also by each individual project team committing to the client’s specifications and Swinerton’s own standardized processes for quality control, safety, self-perform, and other best-in-class practices for healthcare spaces.
As Vera Whole Health continues its nationwide growth, Swinerton stands ready to deliver the same level of construction excellence that has characterized the partnership thus far. We also invite new clients to explore our healthcare experience and connect with a local expert to explore future project opportunities.
