The days of traditional photo documentation are behind us. We no longer need the task of uploading stagnant construction progress photographs, only to be digitally stored and never looked at again. Swinerton recently signed an Enterprise Agreement with OpenSpace allowing all Swinerton projects the use of this tool. OpenSpace is a platform that automatically generates 360-degree photographic records of your jobsite that can be accessed from your mobile device or laptop at any time.

If you can walk your job, you can capture it with OpenSpace. Capturing involves a 360-degree camera mounted to your helmet and a floor plan accessed from the OpenSpace app. Once you are ready to walk, select the proper floor plan and start capturing. OpenSpace uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to automatically pin your captures, taken every half second, to the floor plan. In comparison, other platforms require you to manually select a location on the floor plan. Project teams can capture as often as needed, whether it be to help field to office communication or capture major milestones. Unlimited users can be added to each project and folder permission can also be set to enable you to limit who sees particular captures.

Below is an example of Radisson Blu hotel in Anaheim. The Level 1 Front Desk was captured over 50 times throughout the duration of the project. With OpenSpace, you have the ability to compare any two captures in time. This example shows the progress made in five months and also shows you where MEPFs were installed prior to closing up walls and ceilings.

In addition to comparing captures in time, OpenSpace also has a “Model Compare” option. This allows project teams to compare what was coordinated in the model to what the trades installed in the field. Users also have the ability to drop a manual field note and set priority statuses if an item needs to be reviewed. Direct links can be sent or reports can be generated.
