The Sophie Maxwell Building is an eight-story, 105-unit affordable workforce housing development in San Francisco’s Potrero Power Station district, completed by Swinerton for owner Fifth Space. Designed by Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects, the building delivers 70 studio, 21 one-bedroom, and 14 two-bedroom apartments reserved for affordable and workforce housing within one of San Francisco’s largest mixed-use urban redevelopment projects.

Swinerton provided general contracting, preconstruction, and self-perform services for the project, located at the corner of Humboldt and Maryland Streets within the larger Power Station site. In addition to residential units, the building includes ground-floor cold-shell retail, administrative offices, tenant amenity rooms, rooftop amenity space, and communal laundry facilities.

The building is named in honor of Sophie Maxwell, the longtime San Francisco District 10 Supervisor who championed affordable housing and environmental justice in the Potrero Hill and Bayview neighborhoods for over a decade.
