Swinerton Builds HiFi Dallas Music Venue
Dallas’ Design District is getting its first major concert venue, and general contractor Swinerton is behind the scenes building it with architectural firm Rios Clementi Hale Studios.
The HiFi Dallas is a 35-year-old warehouse owned by Mark Cuban, entrepreneur and owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Currently under construction, the facility is located near the Dallas Mavericks’ practice space and within walking distance of the American Airlines Centers, where the Mavericks play.
Ben Weeden, chief operating officer of Live Nation Entertainment Inc.’s Clubs and Theaters Division is collaborating with Cuban to convert the building into a 1,000-capacity live-music venue for rising artists.
Swinerton is helping bring the facility to life, with a room that can be configured in multiple ways for different types of events and performances. The team utilized laser scan and VD&C technology to model the MEP and structural systems. Construction scope included interior demolition of all partitions and systems, structural demolition of the floors to create a depression for the dance floor. To create a double height space for the music hall, the existing structure is being strengthened.
When the space is completed it will have a high-end look and feel that provides an imitate show experience for concert goers. Along with all the usual amenities, patrons will also have access to a brand new outdoor deck with full bar. There will be VIP area upstairs called the Echo Lounge, with its own, more secluded side room for the VVIPs.
“There’s a lot of glass here so we have to temper all the glass and make sure that nothing is bouncing, but that’s what we do every day,” Weeden said to the Dallas Observer. “When you come in here, you see all the different types of wood that we have for the acoustical treatment but also couple that with the design elements of looking good. We wanted there to be an ‘Oh, wow’ moment when you come in.”
