Mick Penn was selected for the 2021 AGC California Construction Education Foundation Friend Award

Congratulations to Mick on his second industry award this year! Swinerton NorCal is proud to announce that Mick Penn was selected for the 2021 AGC California Construction Education Foundation Friend Award. Mick credits the amazing NorCal team and will be recognized at the AGC awards gala in February 2022.

Mick started his career as the Program Counselor at Mission Hiring Hall assisting clients with construction job placement and retention. After serving in workforce development and outreach manager roles in several private and public entities, Mick joined Swinerton as the Northern California Regional Community Relations Liaison. His significant contributions to workforce development and construction education include:

  • Middle school outreach – organizing and leading Construction Awareness Programs for San Francisco-based youth development organizations United Playaz and West Bay Pilipino Multi-Service Center.
  • High School Impact Programs – he partners with school programs throughout Northern California to educate students on potential craft and administrative careers in construction.
  • High School Parents – he educates parents of high school students about the benefits of having their kids choose a construction pathway.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) in College Recruiting – his efforts include a DEI scholarship through the Construction Industry Education Foundation (CIEF) and recruitment efforts through Howard University and across organizations that serve people of color and women, e.g., Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers. He is also active on several DEI Boards.
  • Youth Mentorship – he connected Swinerton with CityWorks, a San Francisco summer internship program for high school and college students led by the SFPUC and Young Community Developers.
  • Pre-Apprenticeship Programs – he is a passionate advocate and is actively engaged with eight pre-apprenticeship programs in Northern California.
