James Campbell High School (JCHS) is located in Ewa Beach, 25 miles west of Honolulu in West Oahu. As the largest high school in the State of Hawaii, JCHS serves more than 3,000 students in grades 9-12. As part of the campus expansion, the project team constructed a series of five different structures, ranging from two to three stories, which are connected together to create additional 21st century learning environments for students and teachers. The buildings include 27 total classrooms, including spaces for general education classes, five science labs, a culinary arts lab and herb garden, Hawaiian studies classroom, two faculty centers, an outdoor performing arts space, as well as additional meeting spaces and offices. Swinerton self-performed concrete, doors/frames/hardware, and rough and finish carpentry.

This project goal is utilizing the 2012 Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) criteria adapted for the State of Hawaii (HI-CHPS) as a benchmark for high performance buildings. This project is targeted for HI-CHPS “Verified” certification.
