The new 51,500-square-foot, two-story facility is the City of Hillsboro’s first building to utilize a mass timber CLT structural system. The system was optimized to allow for the necessary spans in the two-court gymnasium without sacrificing the 18-foot cantilever at the entry. The facility also utilizes glulam beams spanning north-south; exposed timber decking ceilings; a metal clad exterior; large glass windows; and a rooftop PV system. Along with the gymnasium, the facility features a running track; a Kids’ Club with onsite childcare; two fitness rooms; a cardio/weight center; locker rooms; and a large surface parking lot. It also houses multiple spaces for community programs, educational classes, and special events.
