Swinerton Reaches Key Construction Milestone for DOCS Surgical Hospital

State-of-the-art surgical hospital designed by surgeons for surgeons reaches key construction milestone, setting a new standard for patient care in Southern California.

Swinerton is proud to announce the successful completion of the “closingin” phase of construction for the new sixstory DOCS Surgical Hospital located at San Vicente Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. This milestone marks significant progress toward delivering a cutting-edge facility that will redefine patient and surgeon experiences in Southern California.

With the building now enclosed, the project is transitioning into its next major phase of construction. Upcoming work includes the start of interior metal stud framing, placement of concrete for the slab-on-grade, and continued installation of site utilities and underground tanks. Additionally, steel erection of the porte-cochere will soon be underway, further shaping the facility’s arrival experience and advancing the project toward full build-out.

The project site presents unique logistical challenges due to its restricted footprint and location in a densely populated residential neighborhood. With property lines on all four sides and no perimeter space for a tower crane, Swinerton implemented innovative solutions by positioning the crane and man hoist at the center of the building footprint. Safety measures, including K-rails, covered walkways and fencing were installed along the perimeter, and an emergency egress path was integrated to ensure compliance and safety in the event of a disaster.

“Our team thrives on complex projects like this,” said Brian Holley, Director of Healthcare at Swinerton. “By leveraging creative planning and collaboration, we’ve kept the project moving forward while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.”

Swinerton has maintained open communication with neighboring property management to minimize disruptions and has agreed to replace deteriorated asphalt in the adjacent alleyway as part of a good-faith agreement with the City. Additionally, the existing single-story hospital adjacent to the new facility was demolished in early 2025 to create a surface parking lot, following compliance with AB 2190 seismic regulations.

DOCS Surgical Hospital will feature advanced operating theaters, robotic surgical technology and specialized imaging centers to improve efficiency and outcomes.

“This project represents a new model for surgical care,” said Dr. Khawar Siddique, CEO and Managing Partner of DOCS Health. “Swinerton’s expertise and collaborative approach have been critical in bringing our vision to life.”
