PEACE OF MIND. EVERY TIME.
Every 65 seconds, a fire occurs in a structure somewhere in the nation. In 2019, fires caused roughly 3,700 civilian deaths, 16,600 civilian injuries and $14.8 billion in property damage.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and other investigations have confirmed that lack of proper firestopping has contributed to numerous large loss fires. Fire protection systems are thus mandated as a code requirement.
That’s why it is important to include firestop systems in any building design, right from the start of a project, as part of the life safety plan of structures. When installed correctly, firestop systems will help restore the rating of a floor or wall as it is penetrated by an object or joint and resist the spread of smoke and fire. This can save lives and contain damage to a building.
As builders, life safety is of the utmost importance to us. Our YFNY safety motto emblazoned on all of our employee-owners’ helmets—Your Family Needs You—extends to your project, your people, and the communities in which we live and work.
Swinerton provides peace of mind that when we turn over a building to you, your facility is protected with carefully installed Hilti firestop systems by trained firestop experts so that building occupants are safe each and every day.
The Swinerton Difference
PHILOSOPHY
Our goal is to provide the best and most cost-efficient quality-controlled UL-listed firestop installation to our projects. This adds value for our Owners, Subcontractors, and Employees.
BENEFITS
The benefits of self-performed firestopping ensure the project will have one installation team and one single-source product manufacturer. Single-source firestopping will ensure proper and compliant installation of the best products for the project.
CAPABILITIES
Swinerton employs a company-wide craft population of 2,400 workers, ensuring every firestopping project will be completed on schedule. Select groups of highly skilled carpenter-craftsmen, cross-trained in firestopping science and manufacturer approved product installation processes, ensure the entire project is completed in conformance with current firestop design.
HILTI FIRESTOP PRODUCTS
As partners, Swinerton and Hilti approach life safety from the preconstruction phase to final completion, using the latest technological advances in firestopping pre-formed devices and caulking to ensure life safety for building occupants. Swinerton has IFC-accredited firestop inspectors on our Quality Control teams, and Hilti-accredited firestop installers with hands-on classroom training on the most up to date building codes and standards.
Hilti has been a leading manufacturer and supplier of high-quality and simple-to-use firestop systems.
The firestop portfolio can significantly increase the integrity of components and joints against fire/smoke in either new or existing structures.
FIRE CODE COMPLIANT PRODUCTS
Hilti firestop products conform to the most stringent international standards such as ASTM and EN. Life safety is of key importance to Hilti, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the research and development of passive fire protection systems. They offer a wide range of approved products to cover a wide range of applications on the jobsite.
Firestop systems can help restore the rating of a wall, ceiling or floor as it’s penetrated by a cable, pipe or joint. It helps stop the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases and is all part of the life safety plan of buildings.
IMPROVE BUILDING PERFORMANCE
Hilti’s firestop products can improve building structures as well as protect from fire. They’ve been tested beyond ETA and UL fire protection tests and can:
- Improve building acoustics – by blocking up gaps, which also carry sound
- Reduce building movement – which can minimize post-earthquake impacts, thermal movement of piping systems, structural deflection or vibration in industrial facilities
- Protect buildings from mould and mildew – we offer mould and mildew resistant products, which can be particularly helpful in the design of hospitals
- Improve your sustainability and green building rating – we offer information about our products, such as VOC content, for LEED and BREEAM certification
QUALITY SERVICE YOU CAN TRUST
Quality assurance is greatly increased when Swinerton installs your firestop system. We will incorporate the following firestop details into the BIM model, which serves a few important purposes:
- It ensures that each location requiring firestopping is detailed and identified.
- Knowing the scope (detailed locations) in advance, allows our quality team to verify that all locations are completed.
- The end product is shop drawings that can be provided to building management as as-builts. This equips them with details and locations that can be used if they need any modifications/alterations in the future.
- Swinerton’s Firestopping group is innovating life safety with the use of pre-formed firestop devices rather than traditional firestop “caulking.”
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
Self-perform consolidates separate installers and suppliers on the project to one entity for firestop scope. This ensures accountability and consistency throughout the building.
- Reduced inspection failures and risk of firestopping corrections during final walk with fire marshal for TCO.
- Dedicated staffing and manpower guarantees labor availability to make sure we maintain the schedule.
- One Team approach working in coordination with
all other trades from design-constructability to final closeout and billings.
