SWINERTON EXPANDS NEW YORK TEAM AMID GROWING DEMAND

Swinerton, a leading general contractor with offices nationwide, announces the appointment of industry expert Jay Quackenbush as Director of Construction for Swinerton’s New York Division to support the company’s significant growth. Quackenbush brings extensive experience, having managed over $1.5 billion in construction projects in New York City alone and additional work in cities like Chicago and Miami. As Director of Construction, Quackenbush will play an instrumental role in maintaining and enhancing the division’s upward trajectory.

“Jay brings a wealth of industry knowledge and has become a household name and trusted resource locally,” says Andrew Pearl, Vice President and Division Manager, Swinerton New York. “He understands the operational demands within the city and has succeeded in utilizing his civic and trade partner relationships to deliver quality projects.”

“With Swinerton firmly established now in the New York market, we are excited to bring Jay onboard to broaden our business into new service offerings – from ground up and mass timber construction to higher education, institutional and beyond,” continues Pearl.

Quackenbush’s background of successfully delivering projects and managing teams upwards of 150 professionals, makes him well-suited to oversee logistically challenging builds. Additionally, he has deep insight into New York City building standards and nurtures relationships with his comprehensive local network. As Director of Construction, Quackenbush is responsible for raising brand awareness, pursuing new business opportunities, optimizing operations, and supporting Swinerton’s local leadership team in achieving the division’s future business plan.

“Swinerton has nationally recognized proficiency and operational excellence that is a substantial differentiator. For example, the self-perform capability and vertical integration with Timberlab truly sets us apart in New York.  As the business grows, this will strengthen the value we bring to our clients in the greater New York area,” shares Quackenbush. “With such an established company, I get to focus on local market growth and working with an industry-leading team.”

Prior to joining Swinerton, Quackenbush contributed to Shawmut Design & Construction’s expansion into new markets and product types. Preceding this role, as Project Manager and then Preconstruction Manager, he played a key part in establishing Consigli Construction Management’s presence in New York and assisted in opening an office in Albany.

Quackenbush continues, “It takes relationships, knowledge, and experience to get it done. I look forward to bringing that with me to Swinerton, the best run company in the country.”

Quackenbush has displayed operational leadership across diverse markets, including institutional, academic, healthcare, life science, hospitality, retail, and residential, since entering the industry in 2000. While having worked nationwide, he remains dedicated to giving back to his community through Project Healing Waters New York, a nonprofit aiding active military personnel and veterans in coping with trauma through therapeutic outdoor activities. Further, as a member of the New York Building Congress Innovation Committee, Quackenbush works to improve how New York City’s built environment is designed and constructed.

Since opening its New York office in 2021, Swinerton has become a prominent player in New York’s commercial real estate sector, securing contracts for a growing number of prestigious and high-profile projects. Swinerton’s portfolio includes the renovation of the historic Warsaw Theater in Brooklyn, the fit-out of Patreon’s New York workplace, pre-build office fit-out for Brookfield at Manhattan West, and a ground-up self-storage facility for a national client. Notable New York clients also include Milstein Properties, a popular e-commerce brand, and BentallGreenOak (BGO).
