Swinerton revenue reaches 4-year high

The California builder highlighted its financial performance and outlined steps toward technological innovation and green initiatives in its new sustainability report.

Swinerton, a California-based builder, reported its highest revenue in four years, reaching $4.2 billion in 2023, according to its 2023 Sustainability Report. This marks a 5% increase from previous highs of $4 billion in 2020 and 2022. Swinerton’s backlog also hit a new record of $5.2 billion, up 11% from 2022’s $4.7 billion.

In 2023, Swinerton completed 483 projects, ranking No. 35 on Engineering News-Record’s 2024 list of top commercial contractors by revenue. This financial success sets a foundation for the growth of its mass timber subsidiary, Timberlab.

The report highlights technological advancements such as new forming methods for shotcrete walls, real-time concrete scanning, and the adoption of drone technology for inspections. Swinerton has also implemented new tracking tools for inventory and shipping, reducing waste and preventing delays.

Swinerton is committed to sustainability, launching an environmental sustainability policy and developing a framework for its diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) program. These efforts are part of the company’s response to its 2022 materiality assessment.

The report follows a leadership transition with David Callis taking over as CEO from the retired Eric Foster in January. Ray Haj succeeded Callis as COO.
