Swinerton taps new COO following executive shuffle

Ray Haj will succeed David Callis, who became the contractor’s new CEO earlier this month.

San Francisco-based Swinerton has tapped Ray Haj to be its next chief operating officer, the company announced on Jan. 10. He will succeed former COO David Callis, who was picked to be the builder’s next CEO following former chief executive Eric Foster’s retirement after 42 years with the company.

Haj, who originally joined Swinerton Builders in 2001 as a senior scheduler, was most recently a senior vice president and regional manager of the contractor’s Southern California and Hawaii operations, per the release.

In addition, the company said Haj was pivotal in managing rapid business growth, expanding self-perform operations within the Southern California region, and overseeing scale-ups in New York and the Southeast region.

″[Haj’s] enthusiasm for fostering relationships, driving growth, and cultivating emerging leaders make him the ideal choice to propel Swinerton forward as our next COO,” Callis said in the release.

While this is the second C-suite announcement in as many months, the builder has also been busy with more regional leadership moves. This past fall, the contractor tapped new executives and leads in markets around the country, including Atlanta, the Carolinas and Silicon Valley.
