The Boardwalk Groundbreaking Commemorated in Torrey Pines
On Thursday, January 9, Swinerton gathered with Healthpeak Properties, Inc., Project Management Advisors, Inc., CBRE, FPBA, and other members of The Boardwalk project team in celebration of the research campus’ groundbreaking.
From life-sized golden shovels and miniature take-home mementos, to FPBA’s virtual reality headset experience and Clique Hospitality’s laboratory-themed food and libations, the event brought the integrity of the campus located on Science Center Drive to life.
“What started as two distinct buildings on separate land sites has now morphed into an aesthetically cohesive, three-building, amenity-rich campus,” said Mike Dorris, Vice President of Healthpeak. “It’s a project that’s going be functional for the life science community that we have here in San Diego, but it’s also just a really aesthetically pleasing, elegant design.”
When complete, the three-building Boardwalk campus will feature 250,000 square feet of flexible multi-tenant space. The state-of-the-art complex provides an extensive array of cutting-edge scientific laboratory research space and office space in Torrey Pines.
It also includes a spacious conference room and numerous outdoor collaboration spaces. The three buildings emphasize a common architectural design, all of which are unified with common areas via a wooden circulation path that lends The Boardwalk its name.
“Swinerton is very proud to be part of this exciting project,” said Mike Berryhill, Swinerton Operations Manager. “The Boardwalk will create a major impact to the area and serve as a model campus for an amenity-rich, employee-centered workplace.”
Once complete, employees will enjoy a wide range of amenities including a high-end fitness center with shower and locker rooms, a full-service restaurant with interior and exterior seating, and a one-acre outdoor park with multi-functional lawn space and sports court. The campus will be ready for tenant move-in by early spring of 2021.
