From Grandma‘s House to a $16M Firehouse, Steele Creek’s Station 30 Levels Up
For more than 30 years, Charlotte Fire Department’s Station 30 operated out of a converted 1957 residence known as “Grandma’s House” before relocating to a new $16.39 million firehouse at 3019 Beam Road. Constructed by Swinerton as part of the Charlotte Fire Department Facilities Master Plan, the two-story, three-bay facility provides approximately 14,000 square feet of space and serves the Steele Creek community, surrounding industrial and logistics properties, and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport corridor.
The new Firehouse 30 is recognized as the City of Charlotte’s and the Southeast’s first all-electric firehouse. Designed to support Charlotte’s first electric fire truck, the facility incorporates geothermal wells for heating and cooling, EV charging infrastructure, and was built to target LEED Gold certification. The project is part of a broader effort to modernize fire department facilities and accommodate Charlotte’s continued growth.
